Le film

Pete St. John est un spécialiste du marketing politique. Il se gargarise de pouvoir placer ses clients dans les plus hautes sphères de l'État. A l'occasion des sénatoriales, il se retrouve face à Wilfred Buckley, son ancien mentor et ami, chacun avec son poulain pour la conquête du Nouveau-Mexique. Il mène en parrallèle deux autres campagnes, dont une qui va rapidement ébranler ses convictions...
