Le film

Sous l'oeil d'un gouverneur débonnaire, on observe une société séparée entre les Blancs, bouffi de petites jalousies mesquines et de grands secrets inavouables, et les Noirs, exploités par de riches planteurs. Une nouvelle Constitution vient d'être promulguée et des élections s'annoncent, auxquelles David Boyer, jeune syndicaliste Noir, envisage de se présenter en opposition à Maxwell Fleury, fleuron des planteurs.
