Le film

A Londres, en 1866, Basil Hallward peint le portrait d'un séduisant jeune homme, Dorian Gray. Ce dernier s'amourache de Sybil Vane, une chanteuse de cabaret, mais les conventions rigides de son milieu le font rompre et elle se suicide. En rentrant chez lui, il trouve que son portrait a une expression plus dure, presque cruelle.
